Three East Stuart men arrested by MCSO after large fight escalated into shooting.
The shooting was in retaliation for fight that broke out at the park earlier in the day
A large fight erupted at New Monrovia Park in Salerno yesterday afternoon, sparked a retaliatory shooting, a pursuit, and the arrest of three East Stuart men.
Shortly after the large fight broke out, Martin County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a disturbance reference shots-fired along the 4400 block of SE Field Street. Deputies were notified that the armed subjects fled on Cove Road in a white pick-up truck.
Martin County Sheriff’s 100-Shift Deputy Ben Fennell located the truck, and could see people hiding in the bed of the vehicle. He also saw someone throw a handgun out of the truck window. Deputy Fennell and Deputy Chucky Pattison conducted a felony traffic stop on the truck. The driver initially stopped, but then sped off, prompting another short pursuit. Not far from that scene, Corporal Peter Croft deployed stop sticks as the fleeing vehicle approached, deflating two of the truck’s tires and disabling the vehicle. Five men were inside the truck. Deputy Fennell, Deputy Pattison and Corporal Croft immediately took all five subjects into custody. Three of those men were arrested and charged with crimes ranging from fleeing and eluding to possessing a stolen firearm. There were no reported injuries in this incident.
The shooting was in retaliation for fight that broke out at the park earlier in the day. Those three subjects arrested and charged in tonight’s incident, were identified as Damonquie Southern, Devern Clemon III, and Trevon Jamison (not pictured), all of East Stuart.
As deputies were working that scene, they were called to two other large fights that broke out in near-by neighborhoods. No injuries were reported in those incidents.
