At approximately 4:00 A.M., deputies with the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 3400 block of 45th Street in Gifford in reference to calls of shots fired. Deputies learned that Jarvis Hicks (23) of Gifford had been struck by gunfire. Crime Scene Detectives are currently working to reconstruct the crime scene with 45th Street closed to traffic in both directions at 34th Court. Evidence recovered points to multiple calibers of shell casings with more than ten confirmed gunshots being fired during the incident.
Indian River County Sheriff’s Detectives are tracking down witnesses who will be questioned this afternoon. Indian River County Sheriff Deryl Loar stated, “We know that multiple people witnessed the events that occurred early this morning. We continue to ask for the community’s help to bring justice in this case and other recent events. It is a travesty of justice when people who know who committed these crimes refuse to help us.”
If you have any information about this shooting or any other crimes, you may contact the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office non-emergency line at 772-978-6240 or Treasure Coast Crime Stoppers at 1-800-273-TIPS (8477) or www.tcwatch.org.
