Networking can be a game-changer for local entrepreneurs, but traditional networking events can sometimes feel impersonal and intimidating. In this episode of The Current, we discuss how the Port St. Lucie Business Club (PSLBC) is changing that by creating a community where business owners can connect organically, collaborate meaningfully, and grow together.

From a Facebook Group to a Thriving Community

What started as a simple Facebook group has now grown into a 5,300-member community, providing a space where local entrepreneurs can get real support, advice, and connections. The goal was never just about self-promotion—it was about helping business owners succeed by giving them access to the resources and people they need.

Co-founder Nicholas Scalice started the group with the expectation that 500 members would be a huge success. Now, with thousands of engaged members, he and Daniel Velasquez have created a central hub for business collaboration in the Treasure Coast area.

The Power of In-Person Networking

While the Facebook group provided valuable connections, Danny saw an opportunity to take things further with in-person events. Despite initial hesitations about the logistics, these meetups quickly became one of the best decisions for the club’s growth.

Now, monthly networking events regularly attract over 200 attendees, offering a space for business owners to meet, exchange ideas, and find potential partners. Unlike many traditional networking groups, PSLBC events are designed to be fun, engaging, and diverse, with different venues, formats, and even unique elements like magicians at anniversary celebrations.

What Makes PSL Business Club Different?

  1. Collaboration Over Competition – Instead of seeing other networking organizations as competitors, PSLBC actively partners with groups like the St. Lucie Chamber of Commerce, Martini Network, and Shameless Promotion and Muffins, creating a supportive and cooperative business ecosystem.
  2. A Fresh Take on Networking – Events are not limited to rigid formats like luncheons or morning meetings. PSLBC offers various event styles and times to fit different schedules, making networking more accessible for all entrepreneurs.
  3. Support for New Entrepreneurs – Many people feel intimidated when attending networking events for the first time. To make things easier, PSLBC introduced a Community Connector program, where 25 volunteers help new attendees feel welcome, introduce them to others, and break down barriers to meaningful connections.
  4. A Resource for Business Growth – Beyond just events, PSLBC serves as a knowledge hub. Members frequently share insights on digital marketing, finance, and business development. For example, when Google recently removed thousands of business reviews, the PSL Business Club was one of the first to alert members and provide updates.

The Importance of Smart Business Planning

One of the biggest challenges entrepreneurs face is validating their business ideas before making large investments. Many assume that opening a storefront or launching a product is enough, but without market research, financial planning, and a solid marketing strategy, businesses can struggle.

Through PSLBC, business owners can connect with experienced professionals, get feedback on their ideas, and avoid costly mistakes. Instead of learning from failure, they can learn from the experiences of other local business owners who have been in their shoes.

Looking Ahead

The Port St. Lucie Business Club continues to grow, and new events and initiatives are always on the horizon.

For those interested in joining the PSL Business Club, the group is completely free and open to business owners, entrepreneurs, and anyone thinking about starting a business. Whether you’re a seasoned entrepreneur or just exploring an idea, PSLBC provides a welcoming space to learn, connect, and grow.
