City Announces More Visible Downtown Police Patrols

Have you noticed that you see more police officers downtown?  It’s actually not MORE officers. But it’s officers that are more visible than before.

During West Palm Beach Mayor Jeri Muoio’s weekly media availability, the Mayor confirmed the city has changed the way it is patrolling the downtown area.

“We’ve asked everybody to be a lot more visible,” Muoio confirmed Wednesday morning.

“Our downtown is incredibly safe. We have very few issues considering the tens of thousands of people who come down here on a regular basis. But it’s about perception and we want people to feel safe so I asked the police chief to make sure that our police officers were visible and helpful and available downtown,” added Muoio.

The Mayor’s request followed a widely publicized incident a few weeks ago that involved two people who knew each other.  Security experts says it was the kind of incident that could have happened anywhere. But when it happens downtown, it gets a lot of attention.

The change in patrol patterns has been applauded by residents and business owners who have noticed the increased visibility.
