The father of one of the missing Jupiter teens lost at sea this summer was in Tallahassee to push for boater safety. Blu Stefanos said he was speaking from the heart at a news conference on Wednesday.

He’s the father of Austin, one of the teens who went missing off the Jupiter inlet in July, along with Perry Cohen. He joined Senator Joe Negron to push for a new bill to increase boater safety. Specifically, it would lower annual registration fees by 25% for those who purchase and use emergency locater devices for their boats.

Florida leads the country in tragic boating accidents. There were more than 600 accidents in 2014 and 73 were fatal.

A separate bill proposed last month would increase the minimum age to operate a boat from 14 to 16 in the state of Florida.
