The Pasco County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating a Bail Bond fraud that may be one of a series being committed in Florida and possibly in other states.
Through an as yet unidentified method, the suspect(s) identifies the person who has paid the bail for someone who has been arrested. In the Pasco County case, this person was contacted by the suspect(s), via telephone, and told that the subject who had been bailed out has been determined to be a “flight risk” and additional bond money is needed. The person was then directed to send additional money, via Western Union, to “Eric Stewart Hagen” in Las Vegas, NV.
If this didn’t occur, the Bailor would recommit the arrested person.
Similar incidents have been reported in several Counties.
