There has been arrest made in connection to the death of a little girl hit by a car and killed in Fort Pierce.
Azaria Morris died when a car hit her outside her home last September.
Larry Hamilton is now facing charges in the case. He told police at the scene that he had a few beers at a barbecue. Hamilton said he drove away from the house and crossed the double yellow lines on Avenue M to pass two cars in front of him that were driving too slow. He said that’s when he saw the little girl next to the curb. Hamilton said he hit his brakes but couldn’t stop in time.
There were two other people in the car at the time of the crash.
After the incident, police said the girl’s father got into a scuffle with Hamilton. The two other passengers left the scene for fear of their lives, according to the police report.
Azaria died from her injuries two days after the incident.
Hamilton’s blood alcohol content was 0.159, nearly twice the legal limit of .08.
