ST. LUCIE COUNTY – St. Lucie County library patrons are getting an early present this holiday season, as all six branch libraries will be restored to five days of operations each week starting Tuesday, Dec. 15.
St. Lucie County recently hired eight new staff members to help cover the additional hours, which now allow all branch libraries to be open five days a week with weekend and evening hours. The last time all St. Lucie County libraries were open five days a week was in 2010.
“We are extremely pleased to be able to restore our libraries back to five days of operation each week,” said Library Manager Susan Jacob. “The library staff is grateful to the Board of County Commissioners for providing the additional funding to keep up with the demand for services at our libraries.”
Last year, St. Lucie County libraries experienced more than 548,000 in-person visits and more than 358,000 virtual/online visits. A total of 839,641 books, cds, eBooks, DVDs and audio books were checked out from St. Lucie County libraries last year – a 10 percent increase from the previous year. More than half of St. Lucie County’s residents are registered library card users (174,187) with 8,732 new cards being issued last year.
The new hours of operations for St. Lucie County’s branch libraries are:
- Fort Pierce Branch, 101 Melody Lane, Fort Pierce / 772-462-1615: Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.; Fridays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Saturdays from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Lakewood Park Branch, 7605 Santa Barbara Drive, Fort Pierce / 772-462-6870: Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.; Wednesday from noon to 8 p.m.; Fridays and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Morningside Branch, 2410 Morningside Blvd., Port St. Lucie / 772-337-5632: Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Wednesdays from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.; Fridays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Saturdays from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Port St. Lucie Branch, 180 S.W. Prima Vista Blvd., Port St. Lucie / 772-871-5450: Tuesdays from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.; Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.; Fridays and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (Thursday evening hours will be added early in 2016)
- Pruitt Campus Branch, 500 NW California Blvd., Port St. Lucie / 772-336-6380: Mondays – Thursdays from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Fridays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Saturdays 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
- Zora Neale Hurston Branch, 3008 Avenue D, Fort Pierce / 772-462-2154: Tuesdays from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.; Thursday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Fridays and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Note: All St. Lucie County Libraries will be closed Friday, Dec. 25 and Saturday, Dec. 26 in observance of Christmas; and Friday, Jan. 1 for New Year’s Day.
