Martin County has confirmed it will not install a temporary restroom or concession facility while it works through permitting for a full rebuild, meaning beachgoers at the popular Jensen Beach spot will keep relying on a single small restroom well into 2027.
The original facility burned down in a fire on New Year’s Eve 2024. Since then, the site has sat as an empty plot of land, and the county says that will not change anytime soon.
Why No Stopgap Facility Is Coming
County officials have not announced a portable restroom or interim concession option for the site, despite the wait stretching past two and a half years by the time construction wraps. That leaves families, sunbathers, and anyone spending a full day at the beach with one small restroom to share during weekends, holidays, and the busy winter tourist season.
The lack of a stopgap plan ties directly to where the park sits. The building must be permitted through the Florida Department of Environmental Protection because it rests on a protected dune, and that review process does not move quickly. Kevin Abbate, director of Martin County Parks and Recreation, said the county wants to avoid rushing any work in that location, including temporary structures, that could complicate the permit for the permanent building.
What Beachgoers Can Expect From the Rebuild
Once complete, the new facility, called the Sea Turtle Beach Cafe, will replace what was lost with a larger footprint. The design is roughly 80% finished and calls for a 9,000-square-foot building set about 15 feet above ground, with 100 seats inside and another 33 at the bar.
The county expects to finalize funding in September 2026. If that timeline holds, crews could break ground in early 2027 and finish by late 2027, just ahead of the winter season when beach traffic picks up.

Martin County has not said whether it will revisit the decision on temporary facilities if the construction timeline slips further. For now, beachgoers are being asked to plan around the single existing restroom through at least the end of 2027.
