Red tide lingering off Treasure Coast

TreasureCoast, Fl-  Red tide is still being detected in the coastal waters of the Treasure Coast according to the latest data provided by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission

Bloom concentrations of the red tide organism, Karenia brevis, were highest in St. Lucie County, according to the report released on October 26. The report says samples showed from background to high concentrations in Indian River County, background to high concentrations in St. Lucie County, background to medium concentrations in or offshore of Martin County, background to low concentrations in Palm Beach County.

Beaches in northern St Lucie and Indian River counties remained closed yesterday although conditions seem to be improving. Fort Pierce Inlet State Park reopened Monday morning, and Pepper Park Beach could reopen sometime today. Beaches from Fort Pierce south through Martin County are open, but with signs warning about the potential presence of red tide.
