22 abused and neglected dogs discovered in PSL
22 abused and malnourished dogs were located at a rental home in Ft Pierce. They were located on an 11-acred wooded lot in the 1300 block of Angle Road in Fort Pierce.
Most of the dogs were Pit Bulls. They were located by the property owner who does not live at the home. He called 9-1-1 upon finding them.
“The scene was absolutely disgusting,” said Sheriff Ken J. Mascara. “The dogs were tied up with heavy chains around the necks, very tight-fitting collars, had no source of water or dog food and were covered in mange and sores. Two were unable to walk and had to be taken to emergency treatment on a stretcher.”
Shayla D. Wade was found inside the home. She said she knew the dogs were on the property. Andreo Denetrick Hunt, a friend of Wade, admitted to knowing the dogs were on the property and to feeding them.
“Animals are often times victims without a voice,” Mascara said. “They are helpless and depend on us for their care and well being and when they are found mistreated such as these were today, the scales of justice can’t be heavy enough.”
Wade and Hunt were both arrested on 22 charges of aggravated animal cruelty and a third-degree felony. Then they were booked into the St. Lucie County Jail. A bond amount was not readily available.
This investigation is active and ongoing.
