A 2-year-old girl is hospitalized in critical condition after falling into a pond in Stuart.
Bystanders found the girl floating face down in a retention pond at the Ocean Pointe Apartments on Sunday.
Investigators say the girl wandered away from her mother’s apartment and ended up in the pond. Police said the girl’s mother, Bianca Wright, put a movie on the TV for the girl to watch as she stepped into the bathroom. When the mother got out of the bathroom, her little girl was gone. The dead-bolt on the front door was not locked, allowing the girl to get outside.
Two bystanders saw the girl in the water.
One jumped in and pulled her out, the other gave her CPR.
It’s uncertain as to how long the girl was in the water. She was gone from the apartment between 3 and 5 minutes.
She’s being treated at St. Mary’s Medical Center and is expected to survive.
Police say Wright is not facing any charges.
