Wind Chill in effect!

Treasurecoast, FL USA (treasurecoast.com)- The groundhog might not see his shadow Tuesday morning, but he may want to stay underground anyway — just to keep warm and out of the wind.

Expect a jolt of what feels like upper 20s if you step outside early on the Treasure Coast for some air.

A wind chill advisory is in effect for early Tuesday. Westward winds of 10 to 15 mph  could make it feel like 26 to 33 degrees between now and  9 a.m.

Nightly lows this week are forecast on the Treasure Coast to be in the 30s and 40s, but the wind chill will make it feel like 20s and 30s, National Weather Service meteorologists said.

That chill is from a gusty cold front that stirred seas and brought some rain to parts of the region Monday.

Daytime highs are expected to be upper 50s to upper 60s.

The National Weather Service reported the front dropped up to a quarter of an inch of rain as it entered the area early Monday.

Meteorologists issued a gale warning and small craft advisory Monday for boaters about 25 mph winds and possible 40 mph gusts, and warned ocean swimmers of high rip current risk conditions expected to continue through Tuesday evening.

By Thursday morning, there’s no projected threat of wind chill, but overnight lows in the 30s and 40s are still expected.

As of Tuesday evening, the Gertrude Walden Child Care Center, 601 SE Lake St. in Stuart announced its cold weather shelter would be open 5:30 p.m, Tuesday night.
