The St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office along with Martin County Sheriff’s Office, U.S. Coast Guard, and Border Patrol have recovered 19 people from the Waveland Beach area in St. Lucie County. Sheriff Mascara reports all are in good health. Of the 19 recovered, there was 1 Brazilian male and 18 Haitian males and females all of whom have been turned over to Border Patrol. Four of the Haitians were small children under the age of 4 including a six month old. One person has not yet been located. She is identified as a Brazilian female named Patricia Boaventura DaSilva 39 years old, blond hair, thin build, and wearing blue jeans and a floral print shirt. She was seen on shore by her husband, the Brazilian male, and then they were separated. Anyone seeing a female matching this description on or near the beach area are asked to call 911.

The initial call came from a concerned citizen. Additional calls and several flag downs by other concerned citizens came in shortly after. Sheriff Mascara would like to thank all of the citizens that provided information.
