UF/IFAS Extension Offers Facilitation Skills Course May 18-19

FORT PIERCE – Our communities feel more polarized than ever, but many issues we face are complex and cannot easily be solved without community involvement. Bringing the community together to talk about the issue is one way to engage the members, but these conversations can easily devolve into unproductive complaint sessions without effective facilitation. The UF/IFAS Extension Office is offering a workshop for anyone who wants to learn how to bring people together to discuss solutions for change.

In this workshop, you will learn how to make sure everyone in the conversation has a chance to share. You will learn how to frame an issue, so that everyone understands the problem clearly. Conversations require people, so we will share strategies for recruiting diverse groups of community members. You will have an opportunity to practice using a variety of facilitation tools to ensure successful conversation management. This event is designed to benefit community leaders, non-profit organization representatives and those seeking to elicit productive and impactful community dialogue that leads to community action.

The workshop is free and will take place at the Havert L. Fenn Center, 2000 Virginia Ave. in Fort Pierce. The two-day session takes place on Wednesday, May 18 from 1 to 5 p.m. and on Thursday, May 19 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Travel expenses may be covered for those traveling a distance to attend.  An Equal Opportunity Institution. UF/IFAS Extension, University of Florida, Institute of Food and Agricultural Science.
