Tropical Disturbance may become a Tropical Depression
Miami, Fl (treasurecoast.com)- A broad area of low pressure in the Bay of Campeche, just off the western coast of the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico, is being watched for possible tropical development, just as Atlantic hurricane season officially begins.
This system, also known as Invest 91L, is producing disorganized showers and thunderstorms over the southwestern Gulf of Mexico.
The National Hurricane Center has given this system a medium chance of development over the next few days.
If this system moves slowly and remains over water for the next couple of days, it could develop into a tropical depression.
An Air Force Hurricane Hunter aircraft is scheduled to investigate this system Sunday afternoon, if needed.
Even if further development does not occur, heavy rainfall is expected over parts of southern and southeastern Mexico into early week, which could result in some flooding.
