Treasure Coast Woman First Female Coach in the NFL
A woman from the Treasure Coast has become the first female coach in the NFL.
Jen Welter signed on as an assistant coach with the Arizona Cardinals this week, coaching the inside linebackers through training camp and the pre-season.
Welter grew up in Vero Beach and attended Sebastian River High School.
Michael Stutzke is the athletic director at Sebastian River, but he’s also Welter’s former coach and teacher, and now one of her biggest cheerleaders.
Welter said she loved football from an early age but never thought about coaching in the NFL when she grew up because she didn’t think it was possible. Now she hopes that young girls can see her and realize that anything is possible.
