Sweetwater Hammock Preserve is a protected area along the North Fork of the St. Lucie River. It preserves a seven-acre hammock within the North Fork Greenway. A quarter-mile self-guided interpretive trail winds through the area, identifying common flora such as live oak, laurel oak, and cabbage palm. The preserve provides a natural setting for hiking and birdwatching with visitors often spotting red-bellied woodpeckers among the trees.
The preserve also offers canoe access, though the launch is 100 yards from the parking lot. Bringing a cart is recommended for transporting equipment. Fishing is also allowed in designated areas along the river. Picnic tables are also available for those who want to rest or have a meal.
