Stuart City Commissioner Tom Campenni resigns
Stuart, Fla- Stuart City Commissioner Tom Campenni has resigned amid accusations that he is a bully and has threatened City Manager Dave Ross.
During a conversation, Ross said he felt threatened by Campenni. Ross had told Campenni to not go to a staff meeting with Costco, because that would have been a violation of the Commissioner Code of Conduct. Campenni allegedly went on an expletive filled tirade. He said he would “come after” Ross if he found out another Commissioner was attending the meetings.
Campenni did not deny the conversation, and said that Ross misunderstood the tone of his comments. Campenni added that Ross was quote “too sensitive to ever be an effective city manager.”
Campenni said he is stepping down as commissioner to save the taxpayers from having to pay $10,000 for an investigation.
This is the latest in a long line of embarrassing controversies for the Stuart City Commission.
The commission has 120 days to either appoint an interim commissioner or call for a special election.
