St. Lucie Medical Center is facing a major malpractice lawsuit after it was claimed a brain surgery patient was left nearly blind and unable to speak.
The surgery was done in 2004.
The family’s lawyer says something was left in his head.
The patient is Lee Ruple. His wife Tabetha tells CBS12 her husband can’t drive or work and has little short term memory. He underwent surgery to address a slow-growing tumor.
Attorney Willie Gary represents Ruple in a $50 million malpractice lawsuit against the hospital and the physician who treated him, Dr. Michael D. Paul. The lawsuit claims Paul left some sort of foreign material in Lee’s brain. A CAT scan showed the particles. One was removed, the other was inoperable.
So far, there’s been no comment from the hospital.
