Sheriff's Office Investigating Missing Aircraft

Brevard County Sheriff1

The Brevard County Sheriff’s Office has assumed the investigation into locating a missing aircraft.

At approximately 430 P.M. yesterday the Sheriff’s Office was alerted by the FAA at TICO Airport of a possible airplane in distress and loss of communication near the TICO Airport.  Members from the Titusville Police Department, Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission, Kennedy Space Center Police, and Coast Guard, along with Sheriff’s Office deputies, Aviation, and Marine Units, all responded to the last known area of location to search. The last known location was approximately 1 mile north east of the TICO Airport in the Indian River and approximately 400 yards off the shoreline.

The search effort for the missing pilot had been suspended last night due to the inclement weather, visibility, and relatively large area of coverage. Investigators and search teams returned to the area and continued the search this morning.

Prior to the suspension of the search last evening, debris was located that is consistent with material from the airplane.

We will provide updates as they become available.
