Sheriff Mascara Receives ‘Teddy for Tots’

St. Lucie County, FL –Students at the Palm Pointe Educational Research school in Tradition collected ‘Teddies for Tots’ in celebration of Kindness Week.  Over 800 teddy bears were donated to St. Lucie County Sheriff Ken Mascara to be used for children in crisis.

Students were asked to bring bears to school and deliver them to their homeroom teacher.  Bears of all sizes, shapes and colors began filling the shelves at the school.  “We are very proud of our students,” stated Debra Snyder, Principal.  “They know the bears will be used to help children throughout our community.”

Sheriff Mascara and several of his staff were at the school to accept the bears.  “It is very heartwarming to see what these students have done,” said Mascara.  “These children have done an incredible job.  It shows tremendous leadership and unselfish community commitment.  I’m very proud to receive these bears on behalf of the Sheriff’s Office.”

The children in crisis program provides a teddy bear to young people when they are traumatized.  Hugging the bear provides a little comfort to the children as they deal with very difficult situations.
