St Lucie County Sheriff Ken Mascara wants residents to be on guard against scam artists posing as members of the U.S. Internal Revenue Service.
Over the past week, more members of the community have gotten fake IRS phone calls demanding immediate payment.
According to Sheriff Mascara if you owe money to the IRS, the IRS will send written notification in the mail of any taxes due. The IRS never telephones asking for credit card, debit card or prepaid card information.
For more information or to report a scam, go to www.irs.gov and type “scam” in the search box.
