Savannas Under the Stars is a stargazing night at the Savannas Recreation Area, a 550-acre preserve on East Midway Road in Fort Pierce. St. Lucie County Parks & Recreation hosts it with the Treasure Coast Astronomical Society, and the evening centers on looking up.
Members of the astronomical society set up on site with telescopes and other astronomy equipment. They share views of the night sky with visitors. You don’t need your own gear, but you can bring binoculars or a telescope of your own. The preserve is away from the brighter parts of town, which makes it a good place to see what the Florida night sky looks like.
Food trucks are scheduled to be on hand throughout the event, so you can eat there and make an evening of it. The event runs from early evening into the night. That gives you time to wander between viewing stations, ask the club members questions, and let your eyes adjust to the dark.
It suits curious beginners, kids with questions about the moon and planets, and hobbyists who want to compare equipment. Looking for more to do nearby? Browse the St. Lucie County events calendar for other happenings around the area.
