Results of an autopsy are pending on the body found Wednesday in the charred remains of a Port St Lucie home at 594 Beach Avenue.
Firefighters rushed to the scene early Wednesday but little could be done to save the house.
CBS 12 reports neighbors heard a loud series of bangs, then saw a fire. They ran to get the family dogs barking out of the burning home.
Later, the owner of the home came looking for her son, Matthew Hiner. She told a neighbor his body was in the front bedroom, found “hands bound with a gun on his chest.”
The St Lucie County Sheriff’s Office won’t confirm the identity of Hiner, but his family just created a Go Fund Me account, asking for help with funeral expenses and for Hiner’s son, Matt Jr.
Sheriff Ken Mascara confirmed witnesses saw a suspicious man running from the home shortly before the home erupted in flames inside.
Detectives are looking to see if this was no accident, but a murder.
