Wildfires sent smoke into parts of Martin County yesterday, and the health department is warning people about the effects from that smoke.
The smoke can lead to coughing, itchy throats, irritated sinuses, shortness of breath, chest pain, headaches, stinging eyes and runny nose. Those conditions can be amplified for those with heart or lung diseases, and pre-existing respiratory conditions.
Your best bet is to stay indoors when possible, use an air conditioner, use mechanical air cleaners, and keep your windows closed while driving.
It’s also advised to minimize sources of air pollution, such as smoking, and burning candles or incense.
