Hundreds of people on the Treasure Coast are about to be unemployed by year’s end.
The QVC call center located in St. Lucie West will close its call center facility by March of next year.
800 people will be out of work.
QVC spokeswoman Diane Zappas said closing the facility was a very difficult decision, but in the end it’s all about the bottom dollar.
On the phone Zappas explained that more of the company’s customers are buying via the web and not so much by phone.
QVC plans to offer a severance package and career transition services.
Port St Lucie Mayor Greg Oravec said over the next few months, the city plans to work with QVC and other call centers in the area to help people land jobs quickly.
We’ll be talking to Port St Lucie City Councilwoman Michelle Berger in the 8 O’clock hour.
