PSLPD: Suicidal man arrested after standoff
Port St.Lucie, Fl (treasurecoast.com) – The Port St. Lucie Police have reported that a man is in custody after barricading himself inside his home for roughly two hours.
According to the Port St. Lucie Police Department, officers responded early Friday morning to SW Duncan Terrace after calls of a suicidal man with a handgun.
Here is what happened:
At 12:32 am this morning, PSLPD responded to the 800-Blk of SW Duncan Ter in reference to a suicidal male inside the residence with a handgun. A woman was able to safely exit the home and call 911. A second woman was still inside the residence with the man when the gun discharged and struck him in the hand. The second woman was then able to safely exit the home without injury.
Officers began communicating with the male but he barricaded himself inside and refused to exit. After communicating with him for approximately two hours, the PSLPD SWAT Team and Crisis Negotiation Team were able to de-escalate and resolve the situation.
The 33-year-old male exited the front of the residence and was taken into custody. He was transported to the hospital with a non-life threatening gunshot wound to the hand. The investigation is active and ongoing at this time.
