PSLPD finds gun after teen hides it in the woods.
PSLPD was called to the area of SE Walton Road and US Highway 1 for reports that a teen was in possession of a gun on March 27. The complainant told police that the teen was in the parking lot of Eastport Plaza. This is where the teen dropped a silver gun. The witness told police that the teen picked up the gun and ran toward US Highway 1.
Police put out a Be on the Lookout (BOLO) to other officers and SLCSO. A short time later SLCSO notified PSLPD that the teen was located. Then he was being taken to a hospital to be evaluated for psychological issues. Police gathered information that the teen ditched the gun in a wooded lot behind a business in the 9000 block of US 1.
PSLPD K-9 along with Crime Scene Investigators, armed with a water proof metal detector, converged on the wooded area. K-9 narrowed the search down to a specific area of the woods. Ths allowed for the CSI to locate the gun through the use of the metal detector. Police recovered a LLama Cal.380 pistol partially buried in the dirt with brush covering it from view.
There are no charges pending in this case.
