PSL Man arrested for 3 counts of burglary

St. Lucie Police arrested Ronald Laverty on three counts of burglary to an unoccupied dwelling on January 27.

On Friday, January 27, 2017 at around 11:45 am, Port St. Lucie Police received a burglar alarm to a home located in the 600 block of SE Crescent Avenue. Police units arrived. They noticed that a side window had been tampered with indicating a burglary attempt.

Officers cleared the house and did not locate a suspect.  A witness on SE Chapman Avenue flagged down responding officers. She said that she saw a subject exiting a wooded lot across from her house.  The subject then went to her next door neighbor’s house and tried the front door.  Just prior to police arriving on scene then the subject had disappeared.

Witnesses

The officer who spoke with the witness was given a description of the suspect. It was was similar to a burglary suspect Port St. Lucie Police was looking for on multiple burglaries in the area.  The officer showed a picture of Laverty to the witness who positively identified him as the subject she saw.

Port St. Lucie Police detectives, K-9 officer, and St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office Helicopter converged on the area in search of Laverty.  After a couple of hours police were unable to locate him.

A short time later, detectives received information that Laverty was at a house located in the 600 block of SE Port St. Lucie Boulevard.  Detectives went to the house and located Laverty inside the residence.

Laverty was arrested for three burglaries to residence where his prints were recovered from the scene of the crimes.

The burglaries were located in the 500 block of SE Chapman Avenue on January 22, 2017, 500 block of SE Port St. Lucie Boulevard on January 22, 2017, and 400 block of SE Essex Drive on January 22, 2017.

Other investigations
Detectives are still investigating several other home burglaries that have occurred in the area with Laverty as their prime suspect.

Laverty was taken to the St. Lucie County Jail for booking.
