Below is a statement from Sheriff Ken Mascara regarding a firearms training incident at the Gary Morales Training Complex:
At approximately 5:30 p.m. today, while conducting routine agency training in firearms proficiency, Chief Deputy Garry Wilson accidentally discharged his service weapon, injuring himself in the thigh,” said Sheriff Ken J. Mascara.
According to the Sheriff, he sustained non-life threatening injuries and was transported to Lawnwood Regional Medical Center and Heart Institute where he was later released.
“Our FDLE certified, agency firearms instructors work diligently to ensure all safety protocols are in place during training activities,” Sheriff Mascara said.”Our thoughts and prayers are with Chief Wilson as he recovers,” Sheriff Mascara said.
