Powerball and Mega Millions jackpots remain up for grabs

No one rang in 2022 with a major lottery win, as both the Powerball and Mega Millions jackpots remain up for grabs.

The Jan. 1 Powerball drawing, valued at $500 million, rolled over with no winners Saturday evening. The grand prize is now estimated at $522 million, with a cash value of $371 million.

Mega Millions, which had a New Year’s Eve drawing of $221 million, rolled over with no winners of the big prize. It had also rolled over twice before that, and is now at $244 million prior to Tuesday’s drawing. Cash value is an estimated $172.5 million.

It wasn’t bad news for everyone, though. Three players matched five numbers on Saturday’s Powerball drawing, which has a grand prize of $1 million, and one lucky winner matched five with the Power Play option, which doubles the prize.

Similarly, two players matched five Mega Millions numbers Friday night, winning a cool million, while one player matched five with a Megaplier option, which raised the winning to $3 million.

Tickets for both games start at $2 apiece and can be purchased as late as an hour before the drawings.
