Possible fatality after train hits dump truck in St. Lucie County
St Lucie County, Fl- A possible fatal traffic crash occurred on Thursday, October 4, 2018, at approximately 2:30 p.m., at 12701 Glades Cutoff Road, Saint Lucie, County. A dump truck was traveling southeast on the dirt roadway at the entrance of 12701 Glades Cutoff Road, across the railroad tracks. The train was southwest on the railroad tracks approaching the railroad crossing. A collision occurred, and the truck was projected in a southwestern direction, off the dirt roadway into the canal. The train did not derailed. The dump truck cab became separated from the body of the vehicle. The St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue had a dive team and drone submarine on-scene and searched the canal for the driver and cab of the dump truck.
The dump truck has been removed from the canal by Kauff’s Towing and transported to their storage facility located in Port St. Lucie, Florida. The St. Lucie County dive team searched the water for several hours and were unable to find the driver.
For safety reasons, the search was stopped and will continue tomorrow morning. FHP will have a trooper posted at the scene throughout the night.
