Port St. Lucie, Florida, was recently ranked one of the safest cities in the United States. In a recent article by WalletHub, which unveiled its ranking of the safest cities in America for the year 2023, there were several Florida cities.
Port St. Lucie secured a respectable 71st position, moving up 30 positions from its ranking last year, affirming its status as a secure and peaceful community. It was placed just below San Diego and Huntington Beach, California.
The comprehensive assessment involved evaluating over 180 cities across the United States, with a primary focus on three vital dimensions: Home & Community Safety, Natural-Disaster Risk, and Financial Safety.
In the category of Home & Community Safety, WalletHub considered numerous factors to gauge the security of each city’s residents. Port St. Lucie ranked 16th overall for this category.
This isn’t Port St. Lucie’s first time as one of the country’s safest cities. In WalletHub’s article last year, Port St. Lucie ranked 101st.
At that time, Port St. Lucie’s Police Chief, John Bolduc, mentioned that the ranking didn’t take into account the city’s substantial progress in recent years.
Despite experiencing huge population growth and increased development, Port St. Lucie has consistently witnessed a remarkable decline in crime rates. In 2022, crime dropped by 10 percent, and over the course of a decade, it decreased by nearly 60 percent.
Last year, U.S. News ranked Port St. Lucie as the second safest out of 25 cities, reaffirming its commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of its residents.
In terms of Financial Safety, WalletHub considered a range of economic and financial factors. These included unemployment rates, underemployment rates, the percentage of uninsured population and drivers, foreclosure rates, median credit scores, debt-to-income ratios, and poverty rates.
Port St. Lucie, Florida, is thriving as one of the safest cities in America, and it has only been improving those metrics.
