Port St. Lucie Police investigating near drowning of 10 month old girl.

On Friday, December 09, 2016 at around 3:05 pm, Port St. Lucie Police along with St. Lucie County Fire Rescue went to the 1400 block of SE Redwing Circle for reports that a 10 month old girl had nearly drowned after going into the family pool with her 2 year old sister.

Once on scene police learned that the two girls were being watched by their mother.  The mother said that she went outside of the house to retrieve something from the car, and when she entered the house she heard her 2 year old girl screaming.  The mother went to the pool and found her 2 year old girl holding the 10 month old in the pool.  The mother pulled the girls out of the pool.  The 2 year old was fine and the 10 month old was conscience and breathing but suspected to have water in her lungs.

The 10 month old girl was transported by ground to St. Lucie Medical Center and is expected to make a full recovery.

It is suspected that the girls entered the pool area from the house through an unlocked cabana bath door.  Police officers on scene are continuing the investigation into the near drowning.
