The crime spree by a man dubbed the “Plaid Hat Bandit” may be over. The St. Lucie County Sheriff’s arrested Timothy Turner on a charge of robbery with a firearm on Friday.

Investigators believe Turner may be responsible for at least a half-dozen armed robberies in South Florida. The most recent one happened at the Winn Dixie on Port St. Lucie Boulevard last Thursday. The robber made off with $500 in cash, a carton of Marlboro cigarettes and a box of Advil.

His “MO” matches a number of other store robberies. Police said he raises his shirt to show a black handgun, and asks for money and cigarettes, while concealing part of his face with a camouflage color hat.

Officers stopped a black Volvo early Friday morning.

Officers found the hat and handgun in the car.
