Mental Health Awareness Month

Mental Health Awareness Month was started 68 years ago nationally. In 2014, Suncoast Mental Health Center began offering education and awareness events to the community. This is in an effort to break down stigma surrounding mental illnesses, while raising public knowledge of current trends. With decreased stigma, access to mental health care is increased. In 2015, Suncoast partnered with IRSC to offer the first lectures. This year’s speakers will discuss “risky business” and those behaviors that are often pre-cursors to an underlying illness. These risky behaviors include excessive sex, drug use, gambling and others. Attendees of the Brown Bag Lecture are encouraged to bring their lunch and stay for the entire period, or during any portions of the lectures that they are able to. The time is from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.

The event is free and open to the public. Accommodations will be made for those who may need them.

Suncoast Mental Health Center is a 501(c)(3) organization serving the behavioral and mental health needs of residents of Martin, St. Lucie, Indian River, and Okeechobee Counties since 1998. Suncoast is accredited by the Joint Commission.
