McCarty Ranch Preserve spans 3,107 acres of old Florida pinelands and lakes, formed from former mining operations. The City of Port St. Lucie acquired the land in 2012 and incorporated it in 2013 to support water storage and treatment. This ensures a long-term water supply while also providing a passive recreational space. The City hosts two annual events at the preserve: Harvest Hayride & Bonfire in October and the Bonfire Hayride in February.
The preserve offers a range of land and water activities. Cleared trails accommodate walking, biking, and horseback riding. The lake system, covering over 300 acres, allows for fishing, canoeing, and kayaking. Additionally, visitors can play on an 18-hole disc golf course. Camping options include 13 primitive campsites and six RV trailer sites, all in a rustic setting. Each campsite includes a six-foot picnic table, a fire ring with a cooking grate, and a lantern hook. Tent pads measure approximately 20 by 20 feet.
Furthermore, bathroom facilities with showers are available on-site. Two ADA fire rings are located at RV Site #1 and Tent Site #1. While pets are allowed, they must be leashed. However, there are no parking spaces, water connections, or electricity at the sites.
