Mayor Greg Oravec moving to the Keys!
Mayor Greg Oravec likely will soon resign from the City Council here to take a new job as village manager in Islamorada in the Florida Keys.
The Village Council chose him Wednesday afternoon from among three finalists.
A special election would be needed in Port St. Lucie to fill Oravec’s position as mayor.
The Islamorada council’s decision comes two weeks after Oravec, 46, announced he would not seek reelection to a third term.
Oravec could not be reached for comment Thursday.
He told the council he would like to be sworn in by the beginning of July.
Oravec has not announced when he would resign from the Port St. Lucie City Council, but when he does, it will trigger the special election, as required by city charter.
Vice Mayor Shannon Martin said she and Oravec discussed the job a few weeks ago once the candidate pool for village manager had narrowed.
