Martin Sheriff: Body of missing diver recovered

Martin County, Fl – The Martin County Sheriff is reporting the body of the missing diver has been recovered.Martin County deputies say 22-year-old Utah man Maxwell Roberts, who had been staying in Vero Beach, was one of four people on a boat near the Evinrude Rocks, located about 2.5 miles from Sandsprit Park, just beyond the St. Lucie Inlet.

Roberts free-dove out of the boat with a spear gun, just before eleven Friday morning. He never resurfaced.

BODY OF MISSING DIVER RECOVERED
We are saddened to report that the search for the missing diver has ended with the worst possible outcome.
The body of 22- year old Max Robertson, who was visiting from Utah, was recovered about 2.5 miles off shore.
Max was free diving and spear fishing with a group of friends when they say, he dove into the water with his spear gun, but never resurfaced.
His friends immediately called for help.
Martin County Fire Rescue Station 33, Special Operations Dive Team boarded MCSO’s Marine Unit vessel to assist in the search for Robertson.
MCFR’s Dive Team did locate his body about 50-feet down. His spear gun had been deployed and there were no obvious signs of trauma. MCSO’s Criminal Investigations Division will be handling the incident. The medical examiner will determine the cause of death.

MCSO Marine, Aviation Unit and the Martin County Fire Rescue dive team are taking part in a multi agency effort to locate a missing diver about 5-miles off shore. The man is in his 20s and has been missing for over an hour.
FWC, the SLC Sheriff’s Office and the US Coast Coast Guard are also in route to help with the search.
The boats and divers are launching from Sandsprit Park. We will update this when information becomes available.
