Martin Sheriff: Animal services rescue cat from boat after owner dies
Martin County, Fl – The Martin Sheriff is reporting animal services rescued a cat from a boat after the owner died.
The man was deceased more than a week before his body was discovered, the sheriff’s office posted on Facebook.
When detectives from Stuart Police Department removed the man’s body, they realized the terrified pet was unwilling to be taken out.
The Martin County Sheriff’s Office Animal Services Unit was notified. Deputies Tabitha Queen and Shannon McGee entered the boat in Tyvek suits.

It was a difficult task, but MCSO’s Animal Services Officers could not, and would not give up trying to save a cat left behind on sailboat after his owner passed away.
Unfortunately, the man was deceased more than a week before his body was discovered. The individual lived on the boat with his cat.
When detectives from Stuart Police Department removed the man’s body, they realized the terrified pet was unwilling to be taken out.
MCSO’ s Animal Services was notified of the situation. Officers Tabitha Queen and Shannon McGee made entry on to the boat in Tyvek suits for their safety. A short time later, the officers safely removed the animal. The cat was taken to the Humane Society of the Treasure Coast where he will be treated for any medical issues.
If no family takes possession of the animal, it will processed for adoption.
