LOCAL FUGITIVE WHO WALKED OUT OF HIS OWN DRUG TRAFFICKING TRIAL, BACK IN JAIL
A 33-year old man on trial in 2015 for trafficking in Oxycodone, didn’t feel the need to stay in the courtroom, so he left. Despite his absence, he was found guilty and sentenced to 10-years in prison. He ignored the order to report to jail and became a fugitive.
Assistant State Attorney David Lustgarten, Martin County Sheriff’s Warrants Detectives, working in the capacity of the US Marshals Fugitive Task Force, were able to track Jontavis Burgess to a home in Port St. Lucie. Then he he was arrested.
Now at age 36, the ability for Jontavis Burgess to just “walk out” will be restricted until at least his 46th birthday.
