Lightning sparked a brush fire which ended up burning very close to houses in Vero Beach, prompting residents to use buckets and hoses to try and save their homes.
Nathan Martinelli said he heard the lightning strike right outside his bedroom window.
Kathy Godin lives a few doors down from the Martinellis. She saw embers flying by her house.
Crews with the Florida Forest Service and Indian River County Fire Rescue rushed over to help. Fortunately, they were close by and were able to get the fire under control.
It has been a dry June on the Treasure Coast, and lightning has started several brush fires over the past few weeks.
