About Lamar Howard Park

Lamar Howard Park is a Martin County park in the Golden Gate area of Stuart. It covers about 3.7 acres and has a basketball court, a tennis court, and playgrounds.

The Cassidy Community Center sits inside the park and is run by Martin County Parks and Recreation. The county uses it for the Golden Gate Alternative After-School Program, known as G.A.A.P. The same center hosts a free summer camp for children ages 5 and older who have completed kindergarten.

The park is also used for outdoor community events. Martin County Parks and Recreation has held free community movie nights here, with films shown on a 20-foot screen after sundown. The Martin County Sheriff’s Office grill team has served free hot dogs and hamburgers at these nights while supplies last. Movies are rated G to PG-13.

Other Golden Gate landmarks are close by. The Golden Gate Center for Enrichment occupies a 1925 Mission-style building on SE Dixie Highway and runs education, job training, computer access, and nutrition programs. The Martin County Fairgrounds are in the same part of Stuart. Sandsprit Park, on the St. Lucie River, is a short drive away.
