Sheriff Ken Mascara announced that Kenny Hamner, 52, was arrested today. He was charged with first degree murder in the death of his mother, Sheila Hamner.
“After a thorough investigation that included the collection and analysis of both physical and DNA evidence, our detectives developed probable cause to arrest Kenny Hamner,” said Sheriff Ken J. Mascara. “The 19th Judicial Circuit State Attorney agreed with the findings and supported this arrest.”
“The evidence collected at the scene by our crime scene technicians, along with conflicting information gained through the interview of Kenny Hamner, led detectives to believe that he intentionally murdered his mother and then injured himself in order to cover up the crime and cast blame on a person that frankly never existed,” Mascara said.
According to the Sheriff, Hamner was arrested at 8:50 a.m. today and was booked into the St. Lucie County Jail with no bond.
