Police report injuries and property damage in separate incidents across Florida as people engaged in celebratory gunfire.
According to authorities in Orlando, a girl was wounded by a celebratory bullet as she was leaving church shortly after midnight Thursday. Orlando police said there had been a large amount of fireworks and gunfire at the time. The 9-year old girl was treated at the scene by paramedics.
Meanwhile in St. Petersburg, a teenage girl was also struck by a celebratory bullet. According to reports from the police department, the 17-year old was in a backyard watching fireworks when the bullet hit her in the leg.
Also in St. Petersburg, a police officer reported returning to his car to find what appeared to be a bullet-hole in the windshield.
