Indian River County may be investigating its first Flakka- related death.
Just before 4 a.m., frantic calls to 911 came in with neighbors saying 42 year old Jermaine Benjamin was outside acting erratic, as they tried to hold him down. Less than an hour later, he was pronounced dead.
Sheriff’s Detectives say it’s still too soon to tell what Benjamin was high on, but they say his behavior was very similar to someone on Flakka.
At a news conference Tuesday morning, Sheriff Deryl Loar said lawmen had been called to Benjamin’s home 70 times in the past nine years. He had 23 felony charges and multiple misdemeanors.
Investigators are waiting to find out what was in Benjamin’s system at the time of his death.
