Hurricane Joaquin Caused Severe Erosion Along Coast of Hobe Sound

Turtle Hatchlings

High tide from Hurricane Joaquin has caused severe erosion along the coast of Hobe Sound.

However, it is not just the sand that is washing away. Those same intense waves have washed away many turtle nests along the shore.

Senior biologist Pete Quincy says for nearly a week the nests have taken a beating. There are several tracks where turtles hatched and made their way out to sea, but other nests simply were flooded out, ruining a hatchlings chance for survival.

Unfortunately, there is nothing biologists can do to protect the nests, but they are keeping track of those that are affected.
