Humane Society of Vero Beach & Indian River County over capacity
Vero Beach, Fl- The Humane Society of Vero Beach & Indian River County are reporting they over over capacity and need the publics help.
Here are the details:
Our shelter is at capacity- we need and appreciate our community’s patience! Until further notice, we will not be able to accept healthy adult dogs. Dogs who are injured, ill, underage, are in danger, or pose a risk to public safety will continue to be accepted.
Slowing shelter intake will allow us to make sure that all shelter pets receive the level of care that they need and prevents the spread of disease. Keeping healthy dogs out of the shelter protects them from the stress of the shelter and keeps them healthy too.
In just the last two months, we have had 316 dogs enter our shelter, but only 171 have been adopted, which has pushed us beyond our comfortable kennel capacity of 63. Right now, there are 112 dogs currently in our shelter.
The risk of disease and stress is very high, and our wonderful staff and volunteers are also working at double capacity to keep everyone healthy and happy! As soon as we are able to open up, we will let our pet-loving community know. If you find a lost dog, have lost your dog, or if you may need to give up your dog, please see our resources available below.
How can you help? We need YOU to adopt and foster! You can help us in a big way by understanding that we are not accepting ANY healthy adult dogs to our shelter at this time. We sincerely appreciate your understanding and support during this challenging period.
