About Hosie Shumann Park

Hosie Shumann Park is a neighborhood park in Vero Beach, Florida. It is located in Indian River County near Indian River Memorial Hospital. The park provides a small community space for recreation and outdoor use.

The park includes a playground, a basketball court, and a picnic table area. Visitors can use the space for casual play, short visits, and outdoor gatherings. Large oak trees provide shade across much of the park, creating a comfortable environment for daily use. Parking is available on-site for visitors.

Hosie Shumann Park also holds historical significance within the Gifford community. In 1901, the land was donated for a school serving Black students. The Gifford School was later built with support from the Julius Rosenwald Foundation. The school served early grades and eventually expanded to a high school. It operated with support from local families and the community during its early years. In 1971, the property was donated to Indian River County and dedicated as a park in honor of Hosie Shumann.

Nearby points of interest include Gifford Aquatic Center and Victor Hart Sr. Community Enhancement Complex.
